In my book, you only need to address one issue, and that's to keep on writing, writing, writing. Whether or not you straighten up is of no significance to me.

If I told you that I can't write in the middle of a mess, would that change your mind? It would be a whooping lie, of course. Unless the mess is between my eyes and the computer screen, I can ignore it with ease. Sad but true. FanSee

hey we share a common resolution: Keep a To Do list goingIt seems I am always forgetting to "do" something or other so I have vowed to keep a running list.Good luck with the rest of yours...while you are at it would you want to come over and straighten up my kitchen every other day? I hate to clean the kitchen!

So how did it go today? I got my ten paragraphs written, and that's it for today. That's about ALL I did today, but at least it's *something.* There is one other resolution I forgot to put on my list: write to my granddaughter every day. She just moved and is now a couple of hundred miles away. Don't want to break *that* resolution so early in the year, especially since I told her I was making it. FanSee

Nice. I can't make resolutions because I never seem to keep them. Unless they are really stupid ones like "I will party more this year" or something like that. LOL I'll go with your last two fun goals but I'll have to take your word for it that the bathroom renovations thing is fun. ;)

Samantha will be 13 at the end of the month. She's majorly unhappy at being dragged half-way across the state in the middle of 7th grade. Besides how clique-y 7th graders are, she's suffering from culture shock. The urban schools she's attended have been racially diverse, and in the new school, she's the racial diversity. She's Jewish. No blacks, no Asians, no sub-continentals. No Jews, for that matter. Writing everyday, and listening to her cry on the phone, is about all I can do from a couple of hundred miles away. Which reminds me...gotta write today's letter. I haven't missed a day yet although I did write a postcard once. I figure that counts. FanSee

Poor kid. I can relate. We moved about every 4 years from the time I was in first grade, and it's TOUGH. Sounds like she has a much harder time than being a WASP in a WASP school like I was. Kids can be just dreadful to each other! Your phrase "she's the racial diversity" is ...what? "cutting" is the word that keeps coming to mind, cutting in the sense of incisive, and in the sense of sharp and painful. It's painful to read, as I imagine myself in her shoes at that difficult age. But you're on the East Coast, aren't you? How did this happen? I (naively, it seems) imagined that pretty much everyplace out there was pretty diverse. Or is Samantha from another state?

"But you're on the East Coast, aren't you? How did this happen? I (naively, it seems) imagined that pretty much everyplace out there was pretty diverse."Philadelphia and environs are diverse, but Samantha's parents moved to Lycoming County in the north-central part of the state, which is neither diverse nor liberal. The only reason Pennsylvania isn't a red state is because of the numbers of Philadelphians and their unremitting blueness. We vote Democrat and we vote in numbers. More upsetting to me, and I think to Samantha, is how distant Lycoming County is from Philadelphia County. *sigh* FanSee
